There are a variety of foods that you can serve at a bridal shower. There are also some that you may wish to avoid. The simplest thing is to eliminate what you can’t have. As the bride is the focal point of the shower, find out what she doesn’t like or can’t eat. Avoid serving foods that are commonly know to trigger allergies. It’s worth finding out from the guests if they suffer from any food allergies so those products can be avoided.
Now comes the fun. In your chosen bridal shower theme, see if you can fit some flavorsome dishes in with it. One idea you may consider is having a brunch party. Hold it on a Sunday and very soon it will stretch into a lazy, long afternoon. Make it informal and you will find the guests moving about and getting acquainted with everone. consider having a corner table with fresh bread, maybe another one with fresh fruit. Serving mini quiche is gaining in popularity at these type of events. Have a drinks table on one side of the room. Here you can serve cocktails and punch. Don’t forget some non-alcoholic fruit juices or coffee, too. Desserts are always a favorite. Try some fruit based ones like fresh berries coated in chocolate or some lemon squares.
If you are going to have your bridal shower in the evening then you may consider serving up a casserole. You can socialize while it is cooking. Even better, it can be made earlier in the day and just get heated up before serving. Lasagna can make a great dish, especially if it is served up with a big bowl of salad. These dishes are ideal for an evening party as it can all be made up beforehand. This leaves you free to entertain your guests when they arrive. Another alternative is to have a smoked or grilled dish. This would take minimal supervision while cooking.
Check if any guests are vegans or vegetarian beforehand and make sure that you provide a meat free alternative. A vegetable lasagna or casserole, for instance, or check on the Internet for some tasty vegetarian dishes.
Considering it is a bridal shower, you could serve cake as a dessert. However, many bridal showers are moving away from tradition, so feel free to experiment. An assortment of desserts or pies or fruit maybe. A great centrepiece idea could be a chocolate fountain. These are easily rented for the night.
If you prefer something light like finger food, you could do that too and have a table that is filled with light bites so people can just pick them up and walk around, talking to others. You could serve up things like crackers and cheese, dips with tiny muffins and the like.
Choosing the right food will mean a great bridal or wedding shower. The choice lies with you and the bride.
